The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes is looking to make a change. Management wants to reconfigure the pedestrian area to allow for vehicle traffic. Storefronts in the pedestrian-only area of the Shoppes currently have a “higher” than normal vacancy rate.
The pedestrian area reconfiguration would include the addition of 31 parking spaces. The street could also be closed off, like it is now, so the area can host events. Shoppes management hopes to someday offer large-scale events, like a beer and wine festival or a food truck fair.
“As it stands right now, with a lot of that landscaping, it was harder to bring in larger scale events,” said Jennifer Zafft, marketing director for the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. “I see this giving us an opportunity to do more programming.”
Taking out the pedestrian-only area is something retailers in the interior portion of the mall want. The Maple Grove City Council will vote on the changes at a future meeting.
